Message to all parents and carers

Dear Parents and Carers

Following the decision of the States about the future of secondary and post-16 education we understand that you may be feeling unsure over what the States agreed and what this means for you and your family.

Please be assured your child’s learning and wellbeing remains the most important thing for all of us working in school and across Education Services.

The States supported what is known as the ‘Alternative Model’ which will mean that in future:

  • Secondary education will be delivered in one 11-18 school across two different sites, both of which will include sixth forms
  • The College of Further Education will continue to operate as a single organisation providing vocational, professional and technical education for full-time and part-time students, including apprentices

It is understood that St Anne’s School in Alderney, Le Murier and Les Voies School will continue to operate as now.

As a consequence of this decision four of the five political committee members have now resigned. A new committee will be elected by the States on 7th February.

We understand that you may have a range questions about what this decision means for you and your children. At this time we are unable to provide any definitive answers until the new committee is in place and further planning has been completed.

We are able to confirm that current Year 6 pupils will not be affected by this decision. They will continue to be allocated places at secondary school through the 11+ selection process. Parents will be advised of their child’s secondary school place as scheduled on Monday 26th March.

We will update you as and when further information becomes available.
