Readathon

Standard

Congratulations and thankyou to everyone who took part in the Readathon earlier this year.

We have just received a certificate to show that as a school we raised an incredible total of £705.10 for charities which support children in hospital.

We also raised £141.02 to spend on books for our school

Readathon sponsorship

Standard

Well done to all the children who have taken part in this year’s Readathon.

Just a quick reminder to please return any Readathon sponsorship cards to school by next Friday 10th March. These can be handed to class teachers or directly to the office.

Sponsor money can either be sent into school in cash or using a cheque, or you can pay online using the Readathon website

I look forward to being able to share with you the total amount raised for the Readathon charities and also the amount which will be donated back to the school for us to use to buy new books.

Many thanks

Book Sale

Standard

Thankyou to everyone who supported our Book Sale on Friday. A special thanks to the parents who came in and helped to run the sale.

We raised a total of £338.78 which will be used to buy new books for the school.

However, we had quite a number of new or nearly new picture books left over. These are currently displayed in the corridor near the swimming pool. If you would like to come and have a look and buy any of these books for 50p then please pop in before or after school this week.

Can you help? Fri 10th Feb – Book Sale

Standard

As in previous years we would like to run a second hand book sale on Friday 10th February to mark the end of Book Week.

I am looking for some adult help on the morning to set up and then run the sale.  Books will need to be sorted and laid out before school and then children will visit the hall with their class during the morning.

If you can help then please get in touch, letting me know which part of the morning you are available for.

Many thanks

Miss Horsepool

Readathon

Standard

As part of Book Week we are again holding a Readathon.

Readathon is the UK’s national sponsored reading event for schools. Readathon encourages children to read for pleasure – an activity proven to increase children’s chances of success and personal happiness for the rest of their lives. (Source: OECD)

Readathon motivates reluctant readers to give reading a go, and keen readers to read more widely. It works because children choose what they want to read – they are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun. We would like you to support them, in particular by sponsoring them. The money raised helps the charity Readathon to regularly give brand new books and storyteller visits to children’s hospitals across the UK. For more information, check out your child’s sponsorship card and visit www.readathon.org.

Sponsors can pay by cheque or cash, or pay online by www.readathon.org/sponsor. Please do support your child’s reading efforts. Research tells us again and again that children who read for pleasure are more likely to have successful outcomes. Above all, we hope they have fun!

As well as encouraging pupils to read for fun, our school will get free books worth 20% of our sponsorship total – so there really is something in it for everyone.

What we’d like you to do:

  1. This week your child will be given a Readathon sponsorship card on which to list whatever they will enjoy reading. Books, e-books, poetry, comics – anything goes! Take a look at what they plan to read, or help them complete their list of books – sharing books is fine too (in fact recommended!), as well as listening to audio books.
  1. Help your child find sponsors among family and friends. Sponsors can pay directly on line at readathon.org/sponsor or by cash or cheque made out to Readathon and sent to school. Please also encourage UK tax payers to tick the GiftAid box – Readathon will then be able to claim an extra 25% from the Government at no cost to the donor.

Please return all completed sponsorship cards and money (if this is not paid online) to school by Friday 3rd March.

Thank you for your support – and happy reading!

I am looking for some additional parent/grandparent library volunteers to help things run smoothly in our busy school library. This will involve reshelving books and general tidying and sorting.

If you have half an hour or so to spare on a regular basis either before or after school or during the daytime then please let me know via email or leave a comment.

Many thanks
